Jumbo Supermarkt das Tonic Water von Royal Club ins Auge gefallen. Es handelt sich hierbei um ein zuckerfreies Produkt mit Grapefruit-Aromen, daher habe ich es zum Testen einfach mal mitgenommen.

Wie eingangs schon erwähnt, handelt es sich bei diesem Tonic Water um ein zuckerfreies Produkt, welches Laut Hersteller nur 1 kcal pro 100ml enthält. Somit sicherlich einen Versuch wert, ob es schmeckt und mit den „regulären“ Tonics mithalten kann.
Verkauft wird es in 250ml. Dosen in silbernem Design, relativ schlicht aber elegant gehalten.

Das Tonic Water ist zudem mit Grapefruit-Geschmack aromatisiert, was durchaus zum klassischen Tonic-Geschmack passt und dem ganzen eine fruchtig-frische Note verleiht. Laut Hersteller kommen hier natürliche Aromen zum Einsatz.

Hersteller ist Vrumona BV., Niederlande und wird unter der Marke „Royal Club“ vertrieben.

Direkt beim Öffnen der Dose riecht man schon ziemlich dominant einen Grapefruit Duft. Nicht zu aufdringlich, aber deutlich wahrnehmbar wie ich finde. Ansonsten riecht es nicht sonderlich nach Tonic.

Geschmacklich ist es relativ bitter und nicht sehr süß, was mit Sicherheit auch am deutlich wahrnehmbaren Grapefruit-Geschmack liegen dürfte. Insgesamt nicht zu süß und ich würde es als herb mit frisch-fruchtiger Note beschreiben. Durch die Verwendung natürlicher Aromen schmeckt es auf jeden Fall nicht künstlich.
Es hebt sich somit schon geschmacklich vom „klassischen“ Tonic Water ab finde ich und ich würde es eher als recht bittere Grapefruit-Tonic/Limo bezeichnen.
Die Kohlensäure ist relativ stark und bleibt auch nach einigen Minuten immer noch sehr gut erhalten, was mir auf jeden Fall sehr gut gefällt.

Ich würde zu diesem Tonic am ehesten neutrale, klassische Gins nehmen, um den Grapefruit-Geschmack des Tonics nicht zu sehr zu überdecken. Zitrus-lastigere Gins könnten aber durchaus auch passen – hier muss man einfach ausprobieren was einem schmeckt.
Aufpassen muss man ein wenig, dass es nicht zu bitter wird, da die herben Aromen des Tonics relativ dominant in Kombination mit Gin sein können.

Wenn auch geschmacklich nicht wie ein klassisches Tonic Water, so ist es dennoch ein interessantes Produkt, dass sich durchaus auch für einen Gin&Tonic eignet. Fruchtig-herb mit deutlicher Grapefruit-Note und ausgeprägter Kohlensäure.

    Da der Trend aber überall auch zu „light“ oder „Zero“-Versionen klassischer Getränke geht, gibt es auch von Schweppes nun ein Zero Tonic Water. Auch dieses Tonic kenne ich schon mehrere Jahre aus Belgien (hier dominieren Dosen als Gebindeform – was mir aufgrund der Frische und Kohlensäure besser gefällt), hier in Deutschland kommt es so langsam auf den Markt und ist in größeren PET-Flaschen zu haben.

    Wer kennt es nicht? Der Klassiker schlechthin – schon bevor Gin und Gin & Tonic wieder in Mode gekommen sind. Schweppes Tonic Water gibt es schon seit Ewigkeiten und ich würde es quasi als das „Urgestein“ der klassischen Tonics bezeichnen.

    Hier scheiden sich wohl die Geister, wenn es bei Tonic Water – und erst recht für einen Gin & Tonic – darum geht, ob hier eine zuckerfreie „light“-Version sein muss oder sein darf?!
    Ich bin von diesem „Zero“ Tonic auf jeden Fall positiv angetan, da ich keinen wirklichen Unterschied zwischen der klassischen Variante mit Zucker und dieser komplett zuckerfreien feststellen kann. (Schande über mein Haupt, falls das doch anders sein sollte und ich es nur nicht rausschmecken kann).
    Insgesamt ist es für mich ein „neutrales“ Universal-Tonic das irgendwie immer passt. Keine besonderen Aromen oder Zusätze – einfach ein Tonic ohne Firlefanz.
    Die Kohlensäure ist relativ starkt ausgeprägt – es gehört von den Tonics die ich kenne zu den mit am kohlensäurereichsten, was mir sehr gut gefällt, da es gerne was mehr sprudeln darf im Drink.
